“Part of Me” by: Alan Stout

I love to hear friends and family members share that one special experience when they first gained a testimony of the Book of Mormon. Many of these stories are dramatic—even miraculous. I love hearing their sacred experiences, for their testimonies strengthen my own.

I never had that one pivotal moment when I “gained” my testimony of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon; rather, for as long as I can remember, I have simply always known. I’m grateful that my parents had daily scripture study when we were growing up and that we studied the Book of Mormon year after year after year. If we finished Moroni on Monday, we would pick up with 1 Nephi on Tuesday—like clockwork. It was just one of the things that we did, and I love my parents for it.

Because my mom and dad established this consistent pattern of family scripture study, the sacred doctrines and teachings of the Book of Mormon have become a part of everything I do. In short, I know the Book of Mormon is true not because of something that happened to me but because of who I am.

Notwithstanding my flaws, weaknesses, and imperfections, I know that living the teachings of Jesus Christ as contained in the Book of Mormon will help me change and become more like him.

The miracle of the Book of Mormon is that it can change lives. In my case, it is woven into the fabric of my life. Without the Book of Mormon, I would not be the person I am today.
